Review : Jyothi Lakshmi – Message with a twist

Release date : June 12, 2015
 Rating : 3/5
Director : Puri Jagannadh
Producer : Charmme
Music Director : Sunil Kashyap
Starring : Charmme

Jyothi Lakshmi is certainly a do or die film for Charmme. She has a lot of hopes and money riding on this film as she is also one of the producers. Directed by the super talented Puri Jagan, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how the film is.
Story:-
Satya (Satyadev) is a software engineer who falls in love with a prostitute named Jyothi Lakshmi (Charmee). He visits her home daily and spends some precious time with her. One fine day, he proposes Jyothi Lakshmi and reveals that he wants to marry her.
After seeing Satya’s honesty, Jyothi Lakshmi decides to start a new life and plans to elope with Satya. Does she manage to leave her dreaded life behind ? Will her past haunt her ? and what consequences does she face after she changes her life style is the entire crux of the story.
Plus Points:-
Charmee is the main pillar of the film. The way she goes about her character and showcases different variations is impressive. She is bubbly and bold in the role of a prostitute and is quite rebellious and serene in the second half. One can easily say that it is Charme’s career best performance.
The actual show stealer is the young actor Satyadev. Her gives a subtle performance. He will surely have a long career in Tollywood and gives superb support to Charmee in this film. First half of the film is quite bold and some scenes will be liked by the masses.
Interval bang is interesting and has been executed well. Hyderabadi film actor Aziz Nasser is pretty decent in his supporting role. Dialogues by Puri Jagan are bang on and will hit you effectively. The way women empowerment has been showcased is decent.

Minus Point:-

One of the major drawbacks of the film is that the way Charme’s character transforms. After showcasing her quite boldly, the way she changes herself for good looks hurried up. The way Satyadev’s character is abruptly sidelined in the second half lacks effect.
Even though the film has a good message, it gets preachier during the second half. Charme’s speech about prostitutes and the way she destroys the sex workers racket has been stretched out a bit. Brahmanandam’s role looks out of place and does not have any effect.
Lack of known faces might also go against the film. Even though the songs are good, they have been placed wrongly in the second half. There was no need of an item song which spoils the flow of the serious film. Story of the film is quite routine and has been dealt many a times.
Technical Aspects:-
Music of the film is impressive and especially the background score elevates the film well. As mentioned earlier, dialogues are pretty good and carry the mood of the film well. Screenplay by Puri Jagan is crisp and makes up for some interesting scenes. Camera work is also decent but certain visuals lack clarity about the set up of the film.
Coming to the director Puri Jagan, he has been making films which also have an underlying message. He delivers a decent message in a commercial format but drags it a bit during the end. Editing by S R Sekhar is pretty impressive.
Verdict:-
On the whole, Jyothi Lakshmi is a bold film which has a message with a twist. But the message is dragged out too much. Charme’s power packed performance and a decent first half are huge assets. This film will some draw huge crowds in the B and C centers but is just a one time watch for those who seek popcorn entertainment.

Review : Dil Dhadakne Do

Review : Dil Dhadakne Do (Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra)

he much awaited film possessing a stellar ensemble including with the likes of Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Shefali Shah, Farhan Akhtar and Anushka Sharma hits the theaters today. Let’s see whether this cruise directed by the very talented Zoya Akhtar is worth a board.

Story:-
The story is of Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor), a self-made businessman, owning a company named Ayka. He is unhappily married to Neelam (Shefali Shah) and has two children, Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra) and Kabir (Ranveer Singh). Kamal and Neelam love Kabir more than Ayesha, being a male child and unwillingly marry her to a Mumbai businessman, Manav Sanga (Rahul Bose).
Ayesha is unhappy, but tries to focus all her interest in her own travel business. Kabir being a spoilt brat has no interest in business what-so-ever and only wants to ‘fly’. Amidst all the tension, the family decides to go on a cruise to celebrate Kamal and Neelam’s 30th anniversary.
Here Ayesha meets her first love, Sunny Gill (Farhan Akhtar), while Kabir falls for a dancer, Farah Ali (Anushka Sharma). As time passes by, more complications arise in the family. How will each one of them get out of their misery and lead a happy life? Forms the rest of the story…
Plus Points:-
This is one elite and good-looking film, I say. The actors, the costumes, the setting and the locations, everything looks rich and how. One fact that remains universal is that no one can make travel movies as good as Zoya Akhtar. The director first made us love Spain and its culture with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and now I am sure every viewer would ones want to experience going on a cruise in life.
The two huge saving graces of the film are Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra. Ranveer’s amazing punch lines and dialogue delivery calls in for an applaud for sure. His liveliness never lets us down. Priyanka on the other hand plays a unhappily married businesswomen with perfection.
Shefali Shah too provides good support. Ranveer and Priyanka’s sibling chemistry is to watch out for, however, Ranveer and Anushka’s lip lock will surely get the whistles going. Anil Kapoor is a delight to watch. The actor, at this age too has the capability to overshadow all the other young actors in the scream with his charm.
Minus Points:-
The first thing negative about the film is that it is extremely lengthy. The 170 minute long extravaganza is nothing short of boring at times, especially the first half. Farhan and Anushka’s characters have not been explored and the actors did not have much to showcase their talent.
The narrator of the movie is a dog named Pluto Mehra, whose voice is that of Aamir Khan’s. Makes Sense? Not to us. Ranveer and Anushka’s track makes no sense at all and so does Priyanka and Farhan’s romantic angle. A little more explanation would have worked here.
Technical Aspects:
Zoya Akhtar is a talented director, who always showers insights of relationships through her movies, but Dil Dhahdakne Do has certain excessive melodramatic moments and losses pace from time to time. The narrative in the first half takes ages to get over, making the viewers bored. The music album of the film is average. The screenplay is too slow, while the editing is fine.
Verdict:-
On the whole, Dil Dhadakne Do is a ship that can be boarded for its marvellous set up and performances. If you ignore the dragged out and lengthy first half, you will surely enjoy this cruise which is a lot of fu

“Rakshasudu” is the Telugu dubbing version of Tamil action thriller film “Massu Engira Masilamani”, which was previously titled “Masss”, featuring Suriya and ara in thNayanthe lead roles. It has been directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by KE Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Aadnah Arts.
After Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, Suriya is the next most popular Tamil actor in the Telugu region, with a good number of fans. Some of his previous films performed well in Tollywood. His latest film Rakshasudu has been released worldwide today (29 May 2015). Lets see, how Telugu audience received him this time.
Story :
Madhusudhan alias Masss (Suriya) and his friend (Premji Amaren) are con-men and earn money by cheating people. He falls in love with a nurse Malini (Nayantara). One day he meets with a fatal accident, when the two friends were returning with money after a robbery. After this accident, he attains a special ability to see ghosts around him. A ghost named Shiva (Suriya) seeks the help of Madhusudhan and in return, it promises to show him the way to earn a lot of money. What help did Shiva seeks from Masss ? What problems did Masss face in this regard ? What happens in the end ? All these forms the rest of the story that has to be watched on the screen itself.
Positives :
* Choosing a subject with paranormal element is highly risky. But, Suriya succeeded in his attempt. He carries the film on his shoulders and the kind of energy and charm that he exudes is really wonderful.
* Both Nayanthara and Pranitha looked graceful and charming. Their romance with the lead forms an eye-candy for the audience.
* Premgi Amaren showed his funny aspect and the sympathy elements worked well.
* Jai’s Cameo appearance is superb and forms an asset for the film.
* Samuthirakanni as antagonist is a good choice and suited well for the story.
Negatives :
* The melodrama in the second half with exaggerated characters and exciting events, which intended to appeal to the emotions did not work out well.
* The Computer Graphics have been used beyond the requirements, which looked artificial.
Technical Aspects :
* Director Venkat Prabhu has chosen an unusual subject and thrilled the audience with the film.
* Songs composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja are pretty good and his Background Score is one of the major highlight of film.
* Rajasekhar’s Camera work is worth praising and his expertise in lighting techniques elevated the film in a good light.
* The Production values of the film are grand.
 Analysis :
We have seen many Horror Comedy genre films in the recent past, but this film is a different one mainly because of Suriya’s performance. Since the film has some fantasy elements, we have to suspend disbelief and just soak it in as it is. On the whole, ‘Rakshasudu’ is entertaining and a watchable film.

Review : Pandaga Chesko – Routine Comedy Entertainer

Release date : May 29, 2015
 Rating : 3/5
Director : Gopichand Malineni
Producer : Paruchuri Kireeti
Music Director : S S Thaman
Starring : Ram, Rakul Preet, Sonal Chauhan

Energetic hero Ram, has been lying low from quite some time now. He is back after a long gap with a family entertainer Pandaga Chesko. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:-
Karthik(Ram) is a rich business tycoon who lives in Portugal along with his family. He is a broad minded person who does not believe in sentiments and gets engaged to a rich woman (Sonal Chauhan) just for the sake of his business growth.
When everything seems to be going fine, Karthik comes to know of a tragic story involving his mom and her huge family back in India, who are no longer in talking terms with each other.
Karthik decides to reunite his family and heads straight away to India. Twist in the tale arises when falls in love with Divya(Rakul Preet). What will Karthik do now ? Whom will he end up marrying ? and How will he manage to reunite his family ? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:-
Ram looks quite handsome as an NRI and pulls off his role well. His character is tailor made and Ram gives a dedicated performance. He is good with his dances and shares a sizzling chemistry with both the heroines. Undoubtedly, Pandaga Chesko is full on glamour and appeal. Both Sonal Chauhan and Rakul look gorgeous and are a treat for the masses.
Sonal Chauhan is pretty good as an arrogant business woman, and Rakul plays the sweet bubbly girl’s role to perfection. Brahmanandam’s comedy is the biggest asset and will be the major selling point of the film. He is very good as weekend Venkat Rao and brings in decent laughs.
First half of the film is good and has some decent moments. Second half has typical mistaken identity kind of comedy and some family episodes have been handled well. Songs have been shot nicely and both Vennela Kishore and Sampath are good in their respective roles. Prithvi and Shakalaka Shankar are good as Vijayawada brothers.
Minus Points:-
Looks like Tollywood film makers do not want to leave this safe and successful formula of the typical family entertainers. Pandaga Chesko instantly reminds you of many hit family entertainers from the past. The mistaken identities created by the hero, Brahmanandam’s entry, reuniting the families, you have seen all this in many movies in the past.
Pandaga Chesko also suffers from lack of emotional depth. All the emotions showcased are hurried up and pile up one after the other. Story of this film is quite stale and gets easily predictable after a point. There are too many characters which lack justification. Sonal Chauhan’s role is ended on a silly note.
Except for Brahmanandam’s comedy, there is nothing much interesting going in the second half. Abhimanyu Singh and his character looks foolish and off tracks the film a bit.
Technical Aspects:-
Music by Thaman is pretty good and all the songs have been shot well. Camera work is decent and showcases Portugal and other locations beautifully. Costumes selected for Ram’s role are trendy. Screenplay of the film is below average as all the scenes are incorporated just for the sake of drama. Editing is quite good and so is the background score.
Coming to the director Gopichand Malineni, there is nothing novel to talk about his direction as he has executed the film in quite a simple and safe manner. Even though his direction lacks focus in certain parts, he nicely sets it up with entertaining comedy.
Verdict:-
On the whole, Pandaga Chesko will only give Ram a slight breather in his career. His energetic performance, glamour quotient and decent comedy are basic assets. This film is a clear mixture of all the hit flicks that you have seen in the past and does not excite you in terms of story or narration. Keeping the holiday season in mind, this film might attract decent crowds for its routine and safe formula. If you go in well prepared and forget the logics and predictable nature of the film, you might end up liking this routine comedy entertainer.

EXCLUSIVE: Sunny Leone and Daniel Weber NOT kicked out of their apartment!

The couple’s love nest is as safe and warm as ever

The recent rumour in the air is that Sunny Leone and her husband, Daniel Weber have been kicked out of their rented apartment owned by actress Celina Jaitly. According to a report carried by a leading daily, the couple were asked to vacate the house after Celina visited them and found the house in a mess and her furniture rotten and moss-eaten. The report even claimed that the couple is currently put up in a hotel. But BollywoodLife has EXCLUSIVELY found out the truth.

When we contacted Daniel, he was surprised to hear the news and informed us that the rumours were just that, rumours. Laughing at the news, the Dangerous Husn actor said, “That’s funny. This all is bullshit. We have not even lived there (in Celina’s apartment) for a year. We live in Juhu.”

As far as living in a hotel is concerned, Weber told us that he and Sunny are both shooting for their respective projects and Sunny hasn’t even been in town for quite some time now, to live in her apartment. He said, “She (Sunny) is shooting in various locations outside of Mumbai for Splitsvilla.”
Now we can’t blame people for staying in a hotel when they are away from home, can we? Guess “No clouds without fire” is not applicable to all situations, especially in tinsel town.

Sonam Kapoor Just Shared These Jaw-Dropping Pictures From Vogue Shoot

SONAM KAPOOR

'Bold and sexy' isn't a description one would usually accord to Sonam Kapoor, who has more of a 'girl-next-door' image.
But that is the only way to describe these pictures that the actress shared on Wednesday afternoon on Instagram as well as Twitter.
While the actress has simply tweeted them out without warning or any description of any sort whatsoever, HuffPost India confirmed with PR agency Perfect Relations that these pictures were, in fact, inside pictures from the cover story of this month's issue of Vogue magazine, which is on stands now. The actress is on the cover of the April issue of the magazine, which has been in the limelight recently for a backlash over a video they put out featuring Deepika Padukone.
Check out the stunning pictures — shot by photographer Kristian Schuller for the April 2015 issue of Vogue India — below.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns movie review: This Kangana Ranaut film exceeds expectations!

This film is a notch above its first outing…

Hardly does a sequel manages to live upto the glory of the first film. That’s because anything novel is always exciting. A follow up becomes the victim of over expectations and hype. But in the case of Tanu Weds Manu Returns, it’s just the opposite. The sequel surpasses the first film and how! Does kudos go to Kangana Ranaut for this? Well, this film is a team effort!
What’s it about
The now London-based Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) and Manu (R. Madhavan) are unhappy in their married life. It’s drab, boring and unexciting. Both blame each other for it and to create a bit of excitement in her life, Tanu plays a prank that lands Manu in a mental asylum. A lot of contemplation thereafter, Tanu decides to return to India but calls up Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal), Manu’s friend, to rescue the latter without doing it herself. While Tanu takes it for a childish prank, Manu won’t take it lying down. After mulling over it, he sends a divorce notice to Tanu. Not anticipating such a reaction from Manu, an enraged Tanu reverts to her old wild ways while Manu finds love in Tanu’s lookalike Kusum. But can Manu really move on so easily? Is Tanu really devoid of any love for Manu?
What’s Good
Almost everything is superb in this film. It’s funny, eclectic and wondrous. If the spin of the story is fabulous, the performances deserve standing ovation. Kangana Ranaut is spectacular as Haryana’s state level athlete. She seamlessly shifts between Tanu and Kusum and you would actually believe they are two different people. Her Tanu act was something we have seen before so there is no newness to that but Kusum is amazing! Madhavan in his role of this cute adorable husband does his job well. This time he too has some funny one-liners.
But it is Deepak Dobriyal who steals the show here. He has some of the best lines in the film which will crack you up instantly. What works is his straight faced way of delivering dialogues. It seems humour comes very easily to him. All of us have a friend like him who can make you crack even with a simple way of addressing your brother’s wife, “Bhaaabi.” Jimmy Shergil too deserves a mention here for looking really dashing and for some superb straight faced humour!
Aanand L Rai has proved yet again that all you need is a correct story and some hilarious punches to move ahead…audience will do the rest.
What’s not
There isn’t anything supremely unacceptable in this film apart from a few technical errors. There seems to be lip syncing errors at the start and in the second half. The later half threatens to sag a bit with humour declining and emotional outpouring but Rai manages to pull it back! The beti bachao, beti ko azaadi dilao speech by Rajesh Sharma, who plays Kusum’s brother, seems forced but easily forgiveable.
What to do
Tanu has returned with Manu this Friday and this time, everyone is making sure you don’t leave the theatre without a big smile on your face. Hoots and claps are the order of the day! Catch up with Tanu once more or you will miss all the fun this weekend!

Review : Mosagallaku Mosagadu – Passable Crime Comedy

Release date :  may 22 2015
Rating : 3/5
Director : AN Bose
Producer : Chakri Chigurupati
Music Director : Manikanth Kadri
Starring : Sudheer Babu, Nandini Rai

Talented hero Sudheer Babu, is back after a long gap with a crime comedy Mosagallaku Mosagadu. Directed by Nellore Bose, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:-
Krishh(Sudheer Babu) is a small time crook who cheats others for a living. One fine day, he is assigned a job of stealing a precious idol by Kaushik(Jaya Prakash Reddy) and his gang. Twist in the tale arises when Krishh cons every body and runs away with the idol.
This last minute twists causes a huge loss to Kaushik and his boss(Abhimanyu Singh) who are about to go in for a huge deal with the idols. Why did Krishh steal the idol, and What is the actual story behind all this chaos ? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:-
Sudheer Babu looks stylish when compared to his previous flicks. His acting has improved a lot as the young hero carries the entire film on his shoulders. Yet another major highlight of the film is the comedy track between Jaya Prakash Reddy, Duvvasi Mohan and Fish Venkat. All these three save the film and manage to entertain the audience decently.
Heroine Nandini looks good and carries her role well. Climax of the film has been designed well. Saptagiri’s entry makes it more comical and ends the film on a happy note. Chandra Mohan is apt as the school teacher.
Abhimanyu Singh is ok as the bad guy and so is Praveen as Sudheer Babu’s friend. Second half of the film is decent when compared to the first as the actual story kicks off during the interval.
Minus Points:-
One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the first half. There is nothing much happening during this time as the film is unnecessarily dragged by Sudheer Babu’s love track. Mosagallaku Mosagadu also suffers from the tag of predictability. Twists and turns that are showcased are predictable and can be guessed most of the times.
The movie has been promoted as the sequel of Swami Ra Ra but it does not have the style or depth Swami Ra Ra had. Heroine Nandini has nothing much to do in the second half. Certain scenes like Chandram Mohan’s school track creates a bit of confusion for most of the time and is only explained during the fag end of the film.
Yet another major drawback is that the film lacks the necessary pace. Crime thrillers are often racy and have some very interesting con scenes which are missing in this flick. The cop character looks jaded and has no depth in the film at all.
Technical Aspects:-
Camera work is pretty good and presents the film in a decent light. Screenplay of the film is just about ok as some unnecessary scenes disturb the flow of the film. Dialogues are ok and so is the editing. Music is just average as none of the songs manage to register.
Coming to director Nellore Bose, he does an ok job with the direction. Even though he falters with his narration during the first half, he covers it up with the comedy angle in the second.
Verdict:-
One the whole, Mosagallaku Mosagadu will provide a decent relief for Sudheer Babu’s career. A slow first half and predictable nature of the script are basic drawbacks. If you manage to sit through the first half an hour and stop looking for logics, you can easily give this film a shot for its decent comedy in the second half.

Review : Piku

Review : Piku (Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan)

Piku
Release date : May 08, 20
 Rating : 3.5/5
Director : Shoojit Sircar
Producer : N.P. Singh, Ronnie Lahiri
Music Director : Anupam Roy
Starring : Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan

Piku is one of the much awaited flicks in Bollywood this season. Shoojit Sircar , the director of Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe has come up with a different subject. This movie hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
Story :
Bhaskor Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan) is a 70 year old man who is very concerned about his health. He suffers from chronic constipation which makes it difficult to manage for his family. His daughter Piku ( Deepika Padukone) is a young architect who looks after him and she gets frustrated with the tantrums of her father
Rana Choudary (Irfan Khan) is the owner of the taxi service from whom Piku hires a taxi everyday on her way to office. One fine day, Piku and his father decide to visit their native place and they hire Rana to drive them. What happens in the due course of this journey and how Piku handles her critical father forms the rest of the story.
Positive Points :
The experienced star cast involved in this movie gives a good performance. Amitabh Bachchan’s tremendous performance is the major asset for this flick. His command over the dialogue, his delightful voice modulation and his typical face expressions are the defining moments in the movie.
Deepika Padukone played the best role of her career. Her character is well composed and she has done utmost justice to her role. She displayed a good sense of humor through out the film and carries the movie on her shoulders. She gave a top notch performance in the climax.
Irfan Khan’s role gave the much balancing affect and good depth to the story. His performance and comic timing gives an added advantage to the father-daughter relationship.
Entertaining first half and the emotional climax are the major attractions of this movie. The realistic portrayal of a typical Indian family relationship are showcased well in the movie.
Negative Points :
Despite a decent narration, director has failed to give a clear cut idea on the story of the movie. He has solely focused on the relationship between the daughter and father and has not given importance on the plot of the movie.
The flow of the movie slows down a bit in the second half of the movie. This lets down the audience after an entertaining first half. Few scenes looked lengthy and were dragged too much.
Director has stressed too much on the health concerns of Amitabh Bachchan and this has took the energy out of the thoroughly entertaining subject. Apart from three major characters, no other character was given thorough importance.
Technical Aspects:
Direction and narration of the slender story line is the best part of this movie. Despite a simple subject, the director made a good balance of the three important characters. The dulcet music score given by Anupam Roy is very endearing for the audience and the back ground score is also top notch.
Cinematography by Kamaljeet Negi is pretty decent as he locked the beautiful locales of Kolkatta. Editing has been superbly brought out as the brevity in the run time is well appreciable in the current trend. The production values also looked above par.
Verdict :
On the whole, Piku is a beautiful narration of an eccentric relation between an old critical father and her practical daughter. Despite few glitches and a below par story line, the emotional climax, an entertaining first half and a delightful performance by the star cast makes this movie is a must watch for the movie lovers.

BOMBAY VELVET

Review : Bombay Velvet (Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma)

Bombay Velvet
Release date : May 15, 2015
RATING: 3.25/5
Director: Anurag Kashyap
Producer : Vikas Bahl
Music Director : Amit Trivedi
Starring : Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma

Anurag Kashyap’s period film, Bombay Velvet has been one of the most awaited film in the recent times. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar and Anushka Sharma, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:-
Balraj(Ranbir Kapoor) is one among those families who heads back to India after the India, Pakistan partition. He grows up to become a small time thug who does anything for money. One fine day, he ends up meeting Khambatta(Karan Johar) who is one of the richest and most powerful businessmen in the city.
Khambatta nurtures Balraj and uses him for all his illegal activities. He sets up a huge night club named Bombay Velvet and employees Rosy(Anushka Sharma) as the singer. As time passes by, Johnny falls in love with Rosy and starts plotting against Khambatta and his other friends. An angry Khambatta comes to know of this and decide to kill Balraj and Rosy.
Rest of the story is as to how Balraj survives this onslaught from Khambhatta and comes out successfully.
Plus Points:-
Credit should go to Anurag Kashyap for choosing such an intense subject and setting it during the post independence era. The way the glitzy life of Bombay in the early 60’s has been showcased is just superb. Ranbir Kapoor is awesome as the gritty Johnny Balraj. He owns the character and gives his career best performance. All his scenes with Karan Johar have come out extremely well.
Karan Johar is the surprise package and the biggest highlight of the film. Kudos to Anurag for choosing Karan as the antagonist as the director turned actor delivers a power packed performance. Karan is elegant, suave and at the same time lethal as Kaizad Khambatta. Interval bang of the film is very good and has been executed well.
Anushka Sharma once again gives a professional performance. She looks her part as the Jazz singer and ably supports Ranbir in the film. K K Menen is superb as the cop and gives a lot of depth to the film. Visuals of the film are wonderful and showcase the dark side of the city in the early 60’s.
Minus Points:-
The basic drawback of the film is the pace of the movie. Bombay Velvet moves at its own pace and one needs to be patient at times to follow the proceedings. All those who are looking for popcorn entertainment will find this flick dull.
Once the twist in the tale is revealed, the film gets a bit predictable and slow. The length of the film is also a tad too long and the first fifteen minutes have only been used to establish the characters which was a bit unnecessary.
Technical Aspects:-
Major credit should go the art director Sonal Sawant for showcasing the 60’s in such a superb light. The night club settings, vintage cars used and costumes only reveal that a lot of hard work has been done for the film. Camera work is breathtaking as you are engraved in the mood of the film with its beautiful visuals. Dialogues are decent and go with the mood of the film.
Anurag Kashyap had always mentioned that Bombay Velvet would not be bold. Rightly so, the film has less adultery when compared to his previous films. The way Anurag showcases greed and indulges his audiences with the gripping feel of the flick is pretty good. Music of the film is just about ok and mostly comes in the background.
Verdict:-
On the whole, Bombay Velvet is one the most interesting films in the recent past. Captivating premise, Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar’s top notch performances are huge assets. This film has all the trapping of a hit film and will be liked immensely by all those who crave gripping dramas. If you go in without expecting any pop corn entertainment, you will surely love this suave period thriller.
